William B. Reese
William B. Reese, eminent jurist, was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee, November 19, 1793, his family being among the first settlers and his father a prominent lawyer and supporter of the State of Franklin. He was educated at Blount College and Greeneville College, admitted to the Bar in 1817, was elected Chancellor of th Eastern Division, 1832; Justice of the Supreme Court of Tennessee, 1835, serving twelve years and declining re-election. He was defeated for the United States Senate by John Bell; was then made President of East Tennessee University continuing until his death. He was a member of Mount Libanus Lodge #59 at Knoxville.
